Teacher Training Application Tips

Sunday, 3 May 2020

If you are you are wanting to apply for a Teacher Training course or are contemplating it, here are my tips for a fab application/personal statement, with my first piece of advice being to DO IT! You won’t regret it!

⭐️ Your personal statement has to be the same for all providers you’re applying to, so make sure it is appropriate for them all!

⭐️ Include WHY you want to teach, but NOT in a cringey cliché way! Try to avoid “because I’ve always wanted to be a teacher”, or “I was inspired by my own teachers”.. because for me these actually are two of the reasons, but I was advised to make my reasons stand out rather than be the same as everyone else’s!

⭐️ Discuss ALL experiences you’ve had that relate to teaching! Talk about how they will help you in becoming a teacher and what you have learned from them.

⭐️ If you have worked in/volunteered in schools then definitely talk about how you have done things that have been noted as impacting on children’s learning!

⭐️ If you have helped/worked at sports clubs, or extra-curricular activities, then express your interest in this and how much you enjoyed it. Also include what you have taken from it to enhance your teaching!

⭐️ Make a small nod to your understanding and recognition of safeguarding as being vital when working with children.

⭐️ Show you are creative! Talk about creative and exciting things you’ve been involved in and again how this will help you when you are a teacher!

⭐️ Talk about your degree and what you can take from it to help with teacher training. This could include how your subject will integrate into teaching the curriculum as well as including the skills you learned to help with Masters level essays on the course you’re applying for!

⭐️ Be passionate and show you are dedicated and understand the challenges ahead!

BEST OF LUCK!! If this has helped you please let me know! Keep me updated and please message me if you need any more advice!
