Hello and welcome to my website Tara's Teaching where you will find everything about my journey to becoming a Primary School teacher, with advice, updates and many book reviews along the way!
I am Tara and I am currently a PGCE student at the University of Cambridge. I am sure if you have found this page you will have found me through my Instagram @_tarasteaching which links directly with my website. I adore the teacher Instagram community and have learned so much since being a part of it. I want to give something back and help fellow trainees and teachers, so I hope for this website to be a platform to document my training and teaching experiences whilst offering tips along the way!
I am sure I am not the only one when I say I have always dreamed of becoming a teacher! I have never wanted to do anything else and anyone that knows me knows this is all I have ever wanted. So I'll take you back to the start of my career to give you a little bit of background on me and my experiences to date!
- I have always been a lover of Geography so did a BA Honours at York St John University in Human Geography! I loved my degree and living in York was amazing - now my favourite city!
- I decided not to do a degree in Primary Education to become a teacher that way for two reasons:
1. I loved Geography and wanted to study it further because it was my favourite subject as I found it fascinating. I wanted to have a strong subject knowledge behind me to hopefully one day in the future become the lead of that subject in a school.
2. I have always wanted since I can remember, to study at Cambridge University. From living just outside of Cambridge for my whole life, I have always loved the idea of being a part of the University and taking part in all of the traditions such as formal dinners and May Balls. However, I was definitely never going to be clever enough to do my undergrad there haha! So because I knew I wanted to be a teacher, I have always had my heart set on doing my PGCE at Cambridge! - Third year of Uni was intense (as we all know), with multiple assignments and my dissertation to complete! So I decided I wasn't quite ready to apply for Cambridge to do my PGCE yet and instead wanted to get some more school experience in to strengthen my chances of getting a place on the course.
- I therefore applied for a TA job at the University of Cambridge Primary School! I got the job and so moved back home after I had finished my Geography degree to start my TA job in September.
- The University of Cambridge Primary School taught me SO much and I loved my year working there! I will do a separate post on my time there as there is a lot to talk about!
- Whilst working at UCPS, I took the plunge and applied for a position on the General Primary (age 5-11) course at Cambridge. Fast forward to now... and here I am! Studying where I have always dreamed of studying, with a place at Homerton College, loving my PGCE experience! Everything came together and worked out perfectly and I am so grateful all the hard work paid off!
I hope that helps in giving you a bit more information about who 'Tara' is! I hope my posts on here will be helpful and please contact me if you have a request on something you would like me to post about. Make sure you are following both my Instagram and Twitter for all my updates!
Thank you all for your continuing support! I can't wait to share all of the excitment of my teaching journey with you all!
